Китай. 小狗包弟
一个多月前，我还在北京，听人讲起一位艺术家的事情，我记得其中一个故事是讲艺术家和狗的。据说艺术家住在一个不太大的城市里，隔壁人家养了小狗，它和艺术家相处很好，艺术家常常用吃的东西款待它。“文革”期间，城里发生了从未见过的武斗，艺术家害怕起来，就逃到别处躲了一段时期。后来他回来了，大概是给人揪回来的，说他“里通外国”，是个反革命，批他，斗他，他不承认，就痛打，拳打脚踢，棍棒齐下，不但头破血流，一条腿也给打断了。批斗结束，他走不动，让专政队拖着他游街示众，衣服撕破了，满身是血和泥土，口里发出呻唤。认识的人看见半死不活的他都掉开头去。忽然一只小狗从人丛中跑出来，非常高兴地朝着他奔去。它亲热地叫着，扑到他跟前，到处闻闻，用舌头舐舐，用脚爪在他的身上抚摸。别人赶它走，用脚踢，拿棒打，都没有用，它一定要留在它的朋友的身边。最后专政队用大棒打断了小狗的后腿，它发出几声哀叫，痛苦地拖着伤残的身子走开了。地上添了血迹，艺术家的破衣上留下几处狗爪印。艺术家给关了几年才放出来，他的第一件事就是买几斤肉去看望那只小狗。邻居告诉他，那天狗给打坏以后，回到家里什么也不吃，哀叫了三天就死了。
听了这个故事，我又想起我曾经养过的那条小狗。是的，我也养过狗，那是1959年的事情，当时一位熟人给调到北京工作，要将全家迁去，想把他养的小狗送给我，因为我家里有一块草地，适合养狗的条件。我答应了，我的儿子也很高兴。狗来了，是一条日本种的黄毛小狗，干干净净，而且有一种本领：它有什么要求时就立起身子，把两只前脚并在一起不停地作揖。这本领不是我那位朋友训练出来的。它还有一位瑞典旧主人，关于他我毫无所知。他离开上海回国，把小狗送给接受房屋租赁权的人，小狗就归了我的朋友。小狗来的时候有一个外国名字，它的译音是“斯包弟”。我们简化了这个名字，就叫它做“包弟”。
�"���P��}��当哭，是必须在痛定之后的。而此后几个所谓学者文人的阴险的论调，尤使我觉得悲哀。我已经出离愤怒了。我将深味这非人间的浓黑的悲凉；以我的最大哀痛显示于非人间，使它们快意于我的苦痛，就将这作为后死者的菲薄的祭品，奉献于逝者的灵前。

真的猛士，敢于直面惨淡的人生，敢于正视淋漓的鲜血。这是怎样的哀痛者和幸福者？然而造化又常常为庸人设计，以时间的流驶，来洗涤旧迹，仅使留下淡红的血色和微漠的悲哀。在这淡红的血色和微漠的悲哀中，又给人暂得偷生，维持着这似人非人的世界。我不知道这样的世界何时是一个尽头！
